Physical Therapy

Pelvic Health

Pelvic health physical therapy is a specialized branch of physiotherapy involving the assessment and treatment of pelvic floor and deep core muscles. This area of physical therapy deals with pelvic floor conditions including pelvic pain, painful intercourse, prolapse, recovery pre-/post- pregnancy and surgery, urinary incontinence including urgency and frequency, and diastasis rectus abdominus.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture stimulates the release of endorphins – the body’s natural pain-relieving neurohormones – through the insertion of needles into specific anatomical points (acupuncture points) to encourage natural healing. Therapeutic effects include: pain relief, increased energy, improved mood, and improved body function.

Massage Therapy

Massage therapy is a hands-on treatment that helps relieve tension, reduce pain, and promote overall wellness. Using a combination of techniques, including deep tissue, myofascial release, and relaxation massage, our registered massage therapists (RMTs) tailor each session to meet your unique needs.

Pediatric Massage Therapy

Pediatric massage therapy is a gentle, nurturing treatment designed specifically for infants, children, and adolescents. Using light, soothing strokes and age-appropriate techniques, this therapy helps promote relaxation, improve circulation, and support healthy growth and development.

Lymphatic Drainage

Lymphatic drainage massage is a gentle, rhythmic massage technique designed to stimulate the flow of lymph fluid throughout the body. This specialized therapy helps reduce swelling, promote detoxification, and support the immune system by encouraging the natural drainage of lymph, which carries waste products away from the tissues and toward the lymph nodes.

BCST is a permission based, gentle hands-on modality. The touch is light and still, and through informed relational touch by the practitioner, a space of safety and anchoring is established. When our system feels safe this allows the client to reconnect with the inherent health and wisdom of their body. Without safety healing can not occur. The practitioner will ONLY provide support and not impose any predetermined treatment plan or specific intent on the client, allowing the body to make the shifts required to re-regulate the nervous system. This can lead to clients reconnecting with their body's own natural resources and healing, allowing their system to begin processing and releasing patterns, traumas and emotions that have become held within.

With years of clinical experience, she is committed to bridging the gap between ancient healing traditions and modern medical science to provide comprehensive, natural healthcare solutions. At the core of her practice is a deep passion for empowering individuals to take control of their health. She believes that true wellness comes from understanding and supporting the body’s natural rhythms, and she works closely with her patients to create personalized treatment plans that restore balance, optimize fertility, and improve overall vitality.

Dr. Malja’s passion for health started at a young age. After high school, she studied Wholistic Training Health Institute of Massage Therapy in Edmonton, graduating in 2016. Furthering her education in natural health, she enrolled at The Calgary College of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture in Calgary, Alberta. Hello, I’m Deborah and I’ve been a massage therapist since 2003. As a young child I always found myself massaging my family members which continued on into my teen years when you could usually find me massaging a friend’s shoulders, hands or feet. So, when a friend suggested it as a career I knew I had found my calling and I haven’t looked back since.

Early on in my career I found myself deeply focused on the physical and structural aspect of health in the human body, thinking if I could ease the tension or pain from these areas then the body would find its way back to health. But as I began my own healing journey, half way through my career, I began to see that the human system was as vast and deep as the universe we inhabit. I began to see how supporting a client through a “mind-body-soul” approach, opened up new ways my clients could access health and healing within their systems.

Though I have taken many modalities over the years and I love to perform traditional deep tissue/therapeutic massages I found myself drawn to more unique therapies that focus on areas of the system that receive less recognition like the “FJNS” massage, Spinal Rejuvenation Massage and Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy.

Besides my role as a massage therapist you may also find me guiding a yin yoga or deep meditation class here at Sitka.

Outside of work you can find me curled up with a good book, embracing my witchy side with crafting and hosting classes, or exploring the outdoors. Of course, you can also find me enjoying time with my husband and 2 kids or coffee with a friend. We only get one life to live and everyday I am learning to love each and every experience whether that’s time for myself or time with others.

Fort McMurray has been my home since I was 6 years old and I can’t wait to continue to support this community on this new journey.

I’m Heather McLeod! I’ve been a Massage Therapist since 2019 here in Fort McMurray. My original career path in the arts led me to study the human body, and I was fascinated to learn what made the body tick. I loved the concept that something as basic as touch can help ease another’s pain.

My route thus far has been a ‘jack of all trades’; I am always looking for new ways to learn and new ways to help all who step into my treatment room.

It’s exciting to watch the progress of my clients as they take back their health. I look forward to all the new faces and challenges that Sitka has to offer.
